The Poverty Law Section is proud to be the 43rd section of the State Bar of Texas. Our section is comprised of attorneys who practice or have an interest in poverty law, whether housing, family, benefits, healthcare access, consumer, or the various other areas of law that affect the poor in our communities. Our attorneys include a diverse group ranging from private attorneys to legal services attorneys to the academic community.

Description: This presentation will examine the differences between Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcies for indigent clients. It will discuss how to evaluate a client for a bankruptcy case, including how to work through a Chapter 13 plan and summary face sheet. It will also cover some of the more obscure parts of the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 (BAPCPA).
